New recruits
Every person interested and curious about our club is welcome to give it a try for one or two sessions.
They’re welcome during any Monday, Tuesday or Thursday session, we have spare equipment to lend for newcomers.
The minimum gear you must bring for a starter is a comfortable sports outfit.
Equipment to start with
For the practice of sword fighting, we require that you equip yourself and quickly with the following elements:
- Yourself
- A practice outfit both comfortable and practical
- A fencing mask (ideally a HEMA dedicated model)
- Light protecting gloves
- Groin protector
- (a bit later) A longsword simulator, HEMA compatible and made of steel
For the practice of late 19th century / early 20th century HEMA, we require that you equip yourself and quickly with the following elements:
- Yourself
- A practice outfit both comfortable and practical
- Boxing mittens, such as MMA gloves
- Groin protector
To be noted:
Before any investment, do not be afraid to ask to different club members about gear quality, to see what’s worth or not. That will prevent you from spending money on worthless elements.
The Next Steps
For the practice of sword fighting, these are the elements that you will add to your kit over time (roughly sorted by priority) :
- Back of head protection (with or without mask overlay)
- Throat protector
- Chest protector
- HEMA jacket (padded + throat protection)
- HEMA pants (padded)
- Heavy protecting gloves
- Elbows and forearms protections
- Knees and shins protections
For the practice of 19th / 20th centuries HEMA, these are the elements that you will add to your kit over time (roughly sorted by priority) :
- A fencing mask (ideally a HEMA dedicated model)
- Back of head protection (with or without mask overlay)
- Fighting cane simulator
- Medium protection gloves
